How are students and schools adjudicated?

A qualified panel of adjudicators will review musicals and student applications using a 0-10 scoring model that is detailed in the TRS Handbook.

Why are students being reviewed separately from school musicals this year?

Because of the ongoing nature of the pandemic, The Jimmy Awards and Triangle Rising Stars recognize that not all schools will be presenting an in-person musical this school year. In order to be as inclusive as possible for any student who wishes to be eligible, we have decided to allow students to apply separately from their school production.

These changes are not permanent to the program. More information about the application process for both schools and students can be found in the TRS Handbook.

Can homeschool students apply to Triangle Rising Stars?

Yes! Especially this year, when students are applying separately from any in-person school production.

I am a student who has applied for Triangle Rising Stars. What should I expect if I am selected as a top 20 finalist?

Students who are selected as a top 20 finalist will be contacted on April 26, 2022 via email. They will receive 24 hours to accept their nomination before TRS contacts an alternate candidate. These 20 students will be expected to attend evening and weekend rehearsals May 4-10, 2022, and perform at DPAC on May 11, 2022. The rehearsal process is fast-paced and will include auditions for the special guest judges, who will also be adjudicating live at the awards ceremony on May 11. During the live awards ceremony, two students will be selected as either “Best Actor” or “Best Actress”. These two winners will go on to compete in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (aka The Jimmy Awards) with an all-expense-paid trip to New York City in June.
