D.L. Hughley: The Original King of Comedy
DURHAM, NC (July 10, 2017) – One of the most popular and highly recognized standup comedians on the road today, D.L. Hughley will make a stop at DPAC for one night only on Friday, September 22.
DL can currently be heard nationwide as host of his own afternoon radio show “The DL Hughley Show” which is nationally syndicated in over 60 cities across the country including the #1 radio market – New York. He has also recently released his second book Black Man, White House: An Oral History of the Obama Years, described as a satirical retrospective of Obama’s years in office. The book, which was released in June, made the New York Times Bestseller List. DL is currently touring as part of the Comedy Get Down Tour, which features DL along with Cedric the Entertainer, George Lopez, and Eddie Griffin. The tour has been turned into a dock-reality series to air on BET & Comedy Central this fall.
First and foremost a standup comedian, he stars in his ninth stand-up comedy special Clear which is currently airing on Showtime. Known for being astute and politically savvy in true comedian style, DL served as host of his own late night talk show on CNN DL Hughley Breaks the News. He also tapped into his playful side and participated in the 16th season of the hit ABC show Dancing with the Stars.
As the star and producer of his namesake television show that ran on ABC and UPN The Hughleys, DL is also well known as one of the standout comedians on the hit comedy docu-film The Original Kings of Comedy. He is a regular on the late night talk show circuit, including always-memorable appearances on Real Time with Bill Maher, and The Tonight Show. He is frequently requested as a guest host for such shows as Good Morning America, The View and Live with Kelly.
DL’s first love always has been, and always will be, standup comedy. “From the minute I first walked onstage and picked up a microphone,” he says, “I knew that it was what I was meant to do.”
