“We are so pleased to bring Erykah Badu to the DPAC stage,” said Bob Klaus, GM at DPAC. “Her fans will be treated to a truly intimate experience- this venue is perfectly suited to the full range of what she brings to her performances. Large enough to accommodate the biggest of her sound, and close enough to get entranced by her lush rhythms, there can be no better showcase for this incredible artist. This is why DPAC works so well- the performers respond spontaneously to our amazing acoustics, and audiences love the warmth of the DPAC setting.”
Badu’s music evokes images of boho culture, gently weaving a rich assembly of soul, funk, jazz and organic Hip-Hop textures into her signature sound which has garnered her critical acclaim including 4 Grammy Awards from 1997 – 2002. Badu’s big screen debut in the 1999 film The Cider House Rules added another credit to her impressive resume. Badu launched her own label, Control FreaQ, in 2005.
Sulaiman Mausi, President of The Dome Group Inc. and promoter for the show, knows the quality of performance that Badu brings first hand. "Erykah brings an electricity to each and every show, and her fans are never disappointed. No one performs quite like Erykah. Her smooth vibe is unique, ethereal and it reverberates through the crowd. Concert goers are sure to be in for quite an experience."
In 2003, she founded her non-profit group, B.L.I.N.D. (Beautiful Love Incorporated Non-Profit Development), which is geared toward creating social change through economic, artistic, and cultural development. She also transformed the legendary Forest Theater in South Dallas into a headquarters for live shows and charity benefits.
