The duo’s 2017 album, What Now, showcased the band continuing to evolve sonically and lyrically, and positioned themselves at the helm of pioneering pop. Receiving overall critical acclaim, NPR said "What Now is about surrendering your inhibitions in order to make room for forces bigger than yourself: sound that inspires movement, vulnerability that inspires reflection, love that inspires awe," and The New York Times proclaimed “Sylvan Esso keeps pop human.” The album was nominated for Best Dance/Electronic album at the 2018 GRAMMY®s.
