“We are really honored to be hosting this R&B superstar,” said Bob Klaus, GM of DPAC. “His story is inspirational and his music is a testament to hard work and the power of great music. Hands down, this concert promises to be another one-of-a-kind night at DPAC.”
Sulaiman Mausi, President of The DOME Group, Inc. and the concert’s promoter, agrees. "The perfect show, the perfect venue...what better way to kick off spring in Durham? KEM never disappoints, and with the addition of Neo-Soul songstress Ledisi to the show, it is sure to be an undeniable night for music lovers."
Like many of his songs, KEM’s story is a journey of personal triumph: he was once homeless and struggled to support himself and his family, and that experience resonates in every note he sings. Audiences also get a feel for his strong Christian faith, reflected in his lyrics and uplifting stage performance.
A Detroit native, KEM released his third album, Intimacy, in August 2010, and he currently has two singles heating up the airwaves at Urban AC radio including “Share My Life,” now No. 19 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Songs chart. The Grammy® nominated ballad “Why Would You Stay,” held steady on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for 31 weeks. “Why Would You Stay” also topped the Mediabase Urban AC chart for six weeks and was No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B chart for three weeks. Four-time Grammy® nominee Ledisi will open for KEM. The singer-songwriter is best known for her jazz influenced vocals. Born in New Orleans, Ledisi Young (her given name meaning "to bring forth" in Nigerian) has been singing professionally for much of her life. She started at age 8, fronting the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra. Her latest release flirts with different genres throughout, but her elastic, Chaka Khan-influenced vocals still anchor her impressive stage show.
DPAC’s upcoming lineup includes John Mellencamp (March 1), Brian Regan (March 3) and Erykah Badu (March 4). For more information about these and all DPAC shows please visit www.dpacnc.com.
