DPAC Ambassadors at Chris Rock

By Pilar Manson

This past weekend I volunteered for Chris Rock’s show. This was, by far, the highest security show I’ve covered, partially because of the events that recently took place at the Oscars. This show was a YONDR show meaning phones were off-limits to everyone while inside the theater. Although this may seem like it would be stressful it was quite the opposite. DPAC’s staff, volunteers, and a fellow ambassador, Joshua, made this show an incredible experience; everyone was extremely dedicated and friendly.

Through all the procedures being followed, as well as security, a side of DPAC was shown that I hadn’t yet seen so clearly. Watching the staff really come together to keep that night running smoothly was beautiful. Everyone knew their job held weight, that their job really mattered, and they were happy to be there to help which was a huge contrast to some other work environments I’ve experienced in the past. Ms. Sylvia was a staff member who offered to be paired with me before the show and I couldn’t have asked for a better partner. We shared our experiences, our interests and had a great time, all while working by the elevator and helping people find their seats. This just goes to show the type of environment DPAC wishes to create for everyone: one in which every time you go, whether as staff or as a guest, new relationships are built and new experiences can be had.

Reflecting upon this past year as a DPAC ambassador I couldn’t have asked for a better place to work. The opportunity that’s given to you as an ambassador is more than just a temporary workplace; it’s a chance to learn and grow as a person, a chance to develop leadership skills and bonds all while being surrounded by people who share the same love for the arts that you have.

I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world and I’d most definitely encourage anyone interested to apply to be an ambassador for the 2022-23 DPAC season, I know I’ll be applying again for sure.
