Les Misérables Ambassador Blog

By : Kenna

Hi! My name is Kenna and I had the opportunity of working at Les Misérables opening night at DPAC.

For this show, I was assigned the ticketing booth. I’d never had this job before, so it was interesting to learn something new. While I mostly sat and watched what goes on behind the scenes, I did get to put ticket stubs and signed waivers into a folder. One of the first people to visit the booth was the actress who played Young Cosette. This was an exciting time for her because she just joined the tour. I’m really grateful I got the experience to work in ticketing because it’s a really important job in the theatre that isn’t always talked about. If I had one piece of helpful advice for people visiting tickets, it would be to have your ID out and ready, as it will always be requested.

Since some patrons visit ticketing right up to show time, I had to hustle to my seat to make it before opening. Since Les Mis is a 3 hour show, it was important that the show started promptly at 7:30pm. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to get a pretzel which, let's be real, is one of the highlights of the DPAC experience.

Although I’m very familiar with the songs in the production, this was my first time ever seeing the show. Everyone was extremely talented and I really enjoyed it. I do feel like the show is a little harder to follow than some of the newer, jukebox musicals. For those that are unfamiliar with the show, a quick Wikipedia read might help you understand more of what is going on. There are some really beautiful numbers in the show. My favorites were: On My Own and I Dreamed a Dream. The other ambassadors also really loved the show and we were in awe once intermission struck.

If you have yet to see Les Mis, please go get tickets. It will be at DPAC until Sunday, April 9th. Thank you for reading!
