Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical Ambassador Blog

By Patricia

First published in 1957, Dr. Suess’s How The Grinch Stole Christmas has become a holiday staple across the world. It’s beloved by many due to its core value, that Christmas is more than just presents, and even more impactful than the book, is the musical.

Written by Timothy Mason, the story is told by the Grinch’s dog, Max, as he relives his time with the Grinch. With the way everything was written, one would think Dr. Suess wrote the show, with every line rhyming with another, making you feel like you’ve stepped into the pages of a story book.

I’ve seen many shows in my life so far, but this production of How The Grinch Stole Christmas has by far the most creative costume design I’ve ever seen. Padding was added to actor’s hips, or dresses hung straight down from their shoulders, completely changing their silhouettes. The performers looked as if they were plucked from the pages of Dr. Suess’s art, lighting up the stage with their clear love of story-telling and performance. As a finishing touch, snow falls gently onto the crowd in the final scene, bringing the audience fully into the story, inviting them into the family on stage.

All in all, How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical is a wonderful show for any family looking to get in the Christmas spirit. It was a delight to witness, and I hope that any children coming to this show find a new found adoration for the performing arts.
