Going on a "Great Adventure" at the DPAC with Kimberly Akimbo

Blog By: Lila Clark

Last night, I had the amazing opportunity to go on a “Great Adventure” to see Kimberly Akimbo at DPAC! I started off the night with Ms. Aduffie at guest services. I have had the chance to shadow her before this season, so being able to do it again was a super fun surprise! I helped set up our Gala Pro system and worked with guests who requested assisted hearing devices. Of course, I learned so much about Ms. Aduffie and what she does here at DPAC, and I got to interact with many of our guests and volunteers! 1Clark01.jpeg

After my shift, Addy and I sat down in our seats and got ready for the show! I went in with almost no knowledge of the show beforehand, and I was seriously blown away! The show tells the story of Kimberly, a girl who is turning 16 and trying to navigate family drama and a new high school. While this is hard enough, Kimberly was born with a genetic disease that makes her age 4.5 times faster than the average person. She makes new friends with the school show choir, has her first romance with the adorable Seth, and possibly commits check fraud with her sketchy (but hilarious) aunt. In the end, Kimberly, her new friends and family learn to take life as a great adventure and enjoy every moment.

I laughed and cried and left the theater with a new perspective. As Kimberly says best, “just enjoy the ride, because no one gets a second time around.” Be sure to see Kimberly Akimbo while it’s still at DPAC and don’t miss this great adventure.
