From Shuttle Rides to Meeting the Cast, my journey at Disney's Beauty and the Beast
By Mackenzie Hicks
With the fresh DPAC season in full swing, I had the exciting opportunity to experience Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, a timeless and magical Broadway hit. My day as a DPAC Ambassador was filled with many memorable moments, from shadowing a member on DPAC’s amazing team to connecting with the cast from this nostalgic show. From start to finish, the day was bursting with inspiring highlights, and I can’t wait to share them with you!
I had the pleasure of kicking off my day at the courtesy shuttle with the best chauffeur, Mr Corky. The courtesy shuttle drives back and forth from DPAC to the parking garage right across the street, helping guests make their way to the show. On this ride, Mr. Corky welcomes everyone with very valuable information about the show, including start time, end time, length of intermission, and even where to go for the shortest bathroom line! I learned a lot about the way things go on the courtesy shuttle, you pick up anyone going to the theatre, give them the rundown, say hello to Ms. Nancy on the way there, and leave the guests in a lovely mood with a lighthearted joke just before dropping them off. The most memorable part of this position was getting to interact with the eager guests, and of course chatting with Mr. Corky about his journey to DPAC.

Once my shift ended, I made my way inside to secure my essential cookie and quickly got seated for the start of the show. This production of Beauty and the Beast was truly outstanding. The cast brought these nostalgic characters to life with so much dimension. By the time intermission came around, I had much to discuss other ambassadors. I of course had to grab some pictures at the special Beauty and the Beast backdrop with some other ambassadors as well. By the end of this show I could feel the Disney magic in my soul and the unbelievable energy from the audience, blown away by this talented cast. The DPAC Ambassadors had the very thrilling opportunity to meet with some of the cast members after the show for some questions. These individuals were so inspiring to hear from, and it was a very educational experience for all of us. One of my favorite parts was when Cameron Monroe Thomas (Babette) had told us to always be kind, be happy for your friends, and remember to not compare your journey to others. She reminded us that everyone’s journey is different and will move at different paces, and that is okay.
Wrapping up such a special day at DPAC, I left the theatre feeling completely inspired, by the performance, the people, and the entire experience. From riding alongside Mr. Corky on the courtesy shuttle to hearing the wise advice from the talented cast, every moment reminded me of why I love being a part of the DPAC Ambassador program. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast was a celebration of love, kindness, and remembering that true beauty comes from within. I’m so grateful for opportunities like these and can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has in store. I hope to see you at the next show!
