President's Club Experience at The Great Gatsby

Blog By: Micaela La Serna

Hi! My name is Micaela La Serna, and I had the privilege of working as a showstopper at DPAC for the National Tour of The Great Gatsby! This was hands down one of the best experiences I have had working as an ambassador. Not just because of the show, but because of the people I got to work with as a showstopper.

I ended up working at the presidents club and held the door for the guests. I got to shadow Carnetta, who has been working at DPAC for twelve years! What I found most heartwarming was that she knew so many of the people coming into the presidents club. While I waited for guests to arrive, Carnetta saw people from a distance and told me to open the door. I was confused but did what she said, and, of course, they came straight to the presidents club.

I also met Joseph, who helped with security and made sure people felt safe at DPAC. He was so wonderful and friendly, and it brought a smile to my face when guests ran up to him and gave him hugs, saying things like “It’s nice to see you again!” Another person I met was Laquinta, who made the experience of working at the presidents club feel complete. Her, Joseph, and Carnetta were the funniest people. They never failed to make me laugh and make time fly by. I felt at home.

The bottom line? Working a show at DPAC as a showstopper is amazing. I loved being able to get fresh air, meet new people, and watch guests as they walked in. Seeing from people coming into DPAC with 1920 flapper outfits, to people complimenting my showstopper hat, I could feel the warm, kind atmosphere all around me, and it was contagious. After my shift ended, I got to see the show, which was the cherry on top to a wonderful night. Not only that, the ambassadors got to do a post show talk with some of the cast! We learned many things that night, and the main thing was to be kind. I couldn't help but think about the people I worked with as a showstopper, which were the epitome of kind.
