Smooth Harmonies of The Wailin' Jennys

This past week I got to see the Wailing Jennys perform at the DPAC — and what a performance it was! When I arrived at DPAC I was assigned to shadow maps, where I had the pleasure of working with the lovely Ms. Cate (with a C!) to help people navigate to their seats. This show had smaller crowds than usual which meant I had the opportunity to talk with Ms. Cate about her experience as a Wayfinder and her love of theatre. Helping people to find their seats was a simple yet very rewarding job to shadow. I loved getting the chance to connect with people and make small talk. I especially loved to see the crowd that the Wailing Jennys drew: a very artsy and spunky group of people.

When it was time for the show, I made my way to my seat in the box where I reunited with Liam and Mahlaya and we got to enjoy the show! I had never heard of the Wailing Jennys before this show and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked their music. For fans of artists like the Crane Wives or Sarah Groves, this is the band for you! They sang a cover of Keep Me In Your Heart by Warren Zevon and I found myself moved to tears at their performance. The Wailing Jennys are actually from North Carolina, and they noted it was a special performance for them to be able to come back to their home state.

Luckily, photos and video recordings were permitted during their performance, so I was able to get some footage of the songs I liked the most. Their smooth harmonies and Bluegrass elements created an incredible atmosphere, and I would recommend that experience to anyone!
