Talk of Twilight as an Ambassador
Blog by: Lindsey Robinson
When I first entered DPAC to shadow at Twilight In Concert, I never would have expected the many different ways that the theatre accommodates and helps its guests, volunteers, and employees through guest services. After the pre-show meeting I was taken to meet Loretta and see all of the work she does to assist everyone. As I walked into the door, I quickly picked up on how busy the booth can get, as employees and volunteers called Wayfinders came to us, asking for various things– mainly jackets, for those working outside. We helped each of them get exactly what they needed for their shift.

After the initial rush I started writing the Wayfinder’s names on their complementary snack voucher. Loretta explained to me that she writes each of their names on the cards to hand them out more efficiently, and to ensure that each person has got theirs. Various people required assistance throughout the night from bandaids and earplugs to lost credit cards. She explained to me how DPAC has complementary coat service as well. I also learned how DPAC provides listening devices and offers services like GalaPro, which provides the text of what is being said on to a device for it to be read.

Throughout the night, I had an amazing time learning about all that guest services provides, helping with that process, and getting to know Loretta. She has worked at DPAC for seventeen years when it first was established! I was very grateful for her explanations of what the job looks like typically and its different processes, as it enlightened me on parts of the show experience that I hadn’t considered before. Before the concert started, I got myself a snack using the complementary card given and made my way up to the boxseat.
The lights dimmed and the opening sequence played with the great band performing, I grew excited for the rest of the movie, as I felt fully immersed in the experience! There was nothing like being able to watch Twilight with so many other people with the same joy about the experience, and being able to collectively laugh and cheer together. I am so glad to have had this opportunity as I not only witnessed an amazing, and engaging show, but gained so much insight on what contributes to making the DPAC experience so special!
