Beyond the Music at Jacob Collier

Blog By: Jeira Wilcox

There is something so special about live music that is hard to explain until you experience it for yourself. Getting the opportunity to see Jacob Collier on his The Light for Days Tour showed me just how powerful music can be when people come together! Seeing Jacob connect with so many people through his music helped me realize that music is more than just performing. It is sharing a human moment and feeling like you are part of something bigger than yourself. Even though everyone in the audience had their own stories and experiences, we were all there to enjoy the same thing.

What I found especially interesting is how one person can create such a beautiful connection with thousands of people just by doing what they love. Jacob Collier was the one on stage, but the audience helped make the experience just as special with their energy, excitement, and of course their wonderful voices! It really demonstrated that community does not always mean knowing everyone around you. Sometimes it just means having things in common that bring everyone together.

For this show, I got to shadow a wayfinder, Tanya, in lobby maps! I got to greet people and help them figure out where their seats were on the map. Even though it may have been a smaller role compared to what was happening on stage, it showed just how important the behind the scenes work is. Something as simple as welcoming someone or helping them find their seat can make them feel more comfortable and excited for the event.

This experience definitely taught me that community is about people coming together and contributing in their own ways. Jacob brought people together through his music, the audience shared that connection, and the people working helped make it all possible. Being able to experience this concert and shadow Tanya gave me a better appreciation for everything that goes into a live performance. It showed me that one voice can make a big impact, but when thousands of people come together, that impact becomes even greater.
