How Maybe Happy Ending Never Says ¨Maybe¨ to a Successful Show!

On October 13th, 2026, I attended Maybe Happy Ending at DPAC. Once I arrived and finished up with the preshow meeting, I met with Brian, who was the primary staff member I shadowed for the evening in production! This opportunity was absolutely incredible and I got to see all that goes on behind the scenes! When I got to my shadowing position, I was fortunate to see the actors performing their sound check for the night! On top of that, Brian showed me all the intimate effects used on this tour, including the many LED projector screens used throughout the experience.

Did you know the tour uses around 400 led panels to make this show come to life?! INSANE!!! They have even more panels backstage to keep a consistent show! Not to mention the amout of projection mapping that is used in this show to create that futuristic environment. Projection mapping is a form of technology that turns everyday, non-flat physical objects such as buildings, stages, cars, or water into dynamic display surfaces for video projection Brian then led me to stage right where I got to meet the fly team and see the fly system with over 80 line sets! Brian was able to show me all the functions of the rigs the show uses, including his comparison to a seesaw, if one side isnt balanced, it cant run smoothly. One of my biggest takeaways from this shadowing experience was the realization of how many small details there are in this production, while this might only be a 4 person cast, all of the members of tech including lighting, sound, set, and costuming do such a great job at making sure the show runs smoothly. All while keeping the audience engaged through colorful light cues, and immersive effects to enhance and make an emotional connection to these characters and their surroundings. It truly felt like I really was 100 years in the future. This show did not fail to amaze me and keep me interested. And trust me, you do not want to miss this innovative and beautiful piece of art!
