More Than Just a Giggle: How I Felt After Seeing Fortune Feimster at DPAC

Watching Fortune Feimster live at DPAC taught me that live performances are quite different from watching a performance on-screen. The major thing that I noticed was the connectivity that exists among a crowd filled with people laughing and enjoying themselves together. Fortune's storytelling and timing were impeccable, however, what struck me the most was how much her body movements made her jokes funny. Luckily, we were also able to see Fortune's mom, which made the show even more special and personal. Such things are not possible when watching a comedy performance at home.

Fellow DPAC Performing Arts Ambassador, Dasha, and I were able to shadow the Ticketing team before the show. This was such a fun experience for me! I got a taste of what happens in the background and learned so much more about how everything works with the Ticketing side. Typically, when I go to see a show, I’m focused solely on what is happening onstage, so it was fascinating to peek behind the curtain and see what goes on behind the scenes and get a glimpse into the industry. My time at DPAC gave me an even greater appreciation for what goes into making a successful production.

More importantly, I learned from Fortune Feimster that there is more to live comedy than just delivering a good joke! There are many components that contribute to making a performance good, such as timing, storytelling, physicality, and connecting with the audience. Being able to feel this energy together with an audience and also get a taste of what happens in the background.
