Photo Booth, Time Travel and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Blog By: Harlow Polonio

Four days before this shift, when I had gotten student rush tickets to see Cursed Child with my Dad, I had pointed toward the photo booth and asked him if he wanted to take a photo together. He said, “Nah, the line is too long”. Little did I know, I would be helping to manage that long photo booth line when I went to DPAC as an ambassador a few days later! I was nervous since I had seen how long the line had gotten, but honestly, it was a super enjoyable experience. I got to see everyone’s excited faces, and occasionally when the line was manageable, I even got to talk to some of the children about Harry Potter! I want to be a stage manager after I graduate college, so it was nice to get a glimpse of what it would be like to keep track of different things in my mind while trying to be efficient to try and ensure that everyone got an opportunity to take a photo.

After my shift, we got to see the show, and it was lots of fun. I had seen the show before, but it was still cool to see again since I got to pay less attention to the story and more attention to all of the cool magic tricks.

I’ve never been much of a risk taker at all, and time traveling includes LOTS of risks, so I don’t think I would ever do it, even if it meant saving my dad’s fellow student/somewhat-friend/competitor. The only thing that I might use it for is to see one of my favorite shows from off-broadway, Beau, one more time. It closed a few days ago, and unlike other shows that I like, I don’t think there will ever be another chance for me to experience it again since it didn’t quite catch enough attention to transfer to Broadway or get produced somewhere else. If I could time travel, sneak into the theatre, watch the show, and travel back without causing any butterfly effects, I would totally do that.
